What gift should I bring Russians from Canada?

Q. I'm moving to Russia for half a year to teach children English and I'm going to be living with a Russian family..I'd like to bring them some small gifts from Canada, any ideas?? I honestly have no idea what they'd really appreciate or like? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A. I once gave bottles of good maple syrup to some Russians, but they were NOT impressed. On the other hand, the following items were all very much appreciated as gifts:
non-Russian liquor, such as whiskey or tequila;
quality leather and wool items (gloves, scarves);
silver coins and sets in official Mint packaging (especially if issued in the birth year of the recipient).
Also, I noticed that gift bags and wrapping made a good impression, which I personally consider useless.

What would a person in china appreciate as a gift from Canada?
