Q. What is a good job that involves working with special needs or disabled kids?
I'm thinking about jobs that have to do with working with special needs, autistic, or disabled kids. Preferably something with a decent salary, that isn't all paperwork. I'm interested in teaching, or any other work with special needs children, blind, or deaf kids.

A. Speech Pathologist,
SpEd teacher
Regular teacher (plenty if special kids in regular ed)
Gifted teacher (loads of special kids in gifted ed)
None of those salaries are great, but depending on what you think is adequate they can do.
If that's not what you want and you've got the brains for more education, preferably a Phd, you could go into Psychology.

How do you know when to quit your job and start looking for a new one?
Q. I'm a second year special ed teacher, but am finding the demands of the job to be overwhelming. I love working with and teaching the kids, but unfortunately there are a million other aspects of the job that make it difficult to focus on this responsibility. I am in a district with very high expectations and feel increasing pressure to meet these expectations. I thought it would get easier as the year went on, but I am feeling more and more stressed. I am sick all the time (migraines, nausea, vomitting, etc.) and am beginning to have frequent anxiety attacks. For example, I have yet to get to sleep tonight (it's almost 12:30) because I am fearful of going back to school tomorrow after winter break. When I am there, I feel like nothing but a failure. Nothing has ever been so difficult for me. Am I just being lazy? Should I begin looking for a new job, or stick this one out? Help!
A. This is exactly the kind of situation the screams, "Find a new job"! It's affecting your health, your home life and your sanity.
You have a gift to share with children..but it's being stomped out in that particular environment.
It's not worth it to live like this. Start searching for a new job...you are better suited elsewhere. Once you are actively searching for a new job you'll feel like a ton of bricks have been lifted off of you.
You are certainly NOT lazy....you're discouraged and worn out.
I have a friend who stepped away from an environment such as the one you're in...she couldn't believe how stressed she was, looking back, AFTER she removed herself...it was unbelievable.
The indecision is worse than the stresses at work...just make your decision tonight and get a good night's sleep.
Good Luck and God Bless...
