Q. I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican. I try my best to vote for the best man or woman. Although I voted for Kerry during the last election because Bush wasn't up to my standards for president of the USA, I wasn't really overwhelmed with Kerry during the debates. I heard him today on Meet The Press and I must admit that the guy impressed me not only with his gift of delivery but with many of the things he said. He made a lot more sense than McCain who seems to parrot Bush and his plan. I find it too bad that none of the Democrats who are running for president come even close to Kerry's intelligence and general knowledge. Too bad because I am not in awe of any of the Republicans although I probably prefer Romney at this time. In my opinion we don't have too much to work with do we?
A. Maybe Hillary will surprise us by picking Kerry as VP.
It is doubtful though given that Hillary is from New York and Kerry is from Massachusetts. The Northern states usually go to the Democrat running anyway, so a good ticket needs to be well balanced.

Sending a gift basket or hamper to Australia from the USA?
Q. Hi, I live in the USA and need to send a nice gift basket/hamper to Australia. I have spent countless hours online with no luck. The best USA gift basket sites have very limited choices in international delivery, while the Australian hampers would be nothing original. Does anyone have experience in ordering a quality gift online to be sent out of the country? At this point I feel like my best bet is to shop for an Australian hamper to be sent within Australia. I just wanted some neat american cheese or wine I guess... Thanks in advance.
A. Before you buy anything outside Australia for sending into Australia, you should check out on the customs pages as there are numerous items that cannot be imported in (without a special licence).
especially food products.
Have you thought about perhaps making a little gift basket up yourself? Have a think about items (not necessarily food) that is more Americanised (ie obvious choices for someone sending from aus to us would be boomerang, kangeroo, koala etc) That would be original! (and would probably save you money too!) have a thought as to what the person you are sending to likes!\\
Good luck!

Does border security have the right to open parcels/letters in international delivery?
Q. I just received a trumpet as a gift from my uncle (he's in USA and I'm in Canada) and it got scratched because the border inspectors opened it to check what was inside and they were careless.
Does border security have the right to do that?
Does border security have the right to do that?
A. Yes, and I hope they do, considering all the crap that people smuggle.
