What family tradition do you look forward to most around the holidays?

Q. One that we do is have our boys open up one gift on Xmas Eve which is always an ornament that represents something they each loved during that year. They are 3 and 5 now. They love putting up the ornaments from previous years and remembering what they used to enjoy. When they are old enough to have their own tree, we'll give them all their ornaments.

A. My family makes their own Christmas games every year. We each chip in a cheap unmarked present that can be a gag gift. And the gifts are picked in order according to the order of winners.

Last year was fun. We played/made Christmas Jeopardy.
But my prize gift stunk- I (unknowingly) picked sushi Band-Aids, lol

What typical South African gifts to take to Holland?

Q. I am going to work as an au pair from Dec in Holland. I would like to give the family some typical South African gifts for Xmas.

Any suggestions? The 3 boys are 6, 11 and 12, and mom and dad. I am clueless, and the family's info isn't very helpful either.

A. I'm Dutch, don't know anything about typical South African things, but it's likely that those kids have a Play Station 2, 3 or portable there somewhere. So you could buy a nice PS game, kids that age usually enjoy violent things..

A. If you want to, get him a gift. It's entirely about how you feel about gifts and how you feel about giving them and to who.
