How much to spend on a wedding gift when I have to travel?

Q. How much should I spend on a wedding gift for my best friend, who lives 700 miles away? We have 2 small children and finances are tight. My daughter and I are both in the wedding and have to buy dresses too. We'll be spending $700-800 just to attend the wedding and I'll buy a shower gift too. Is $40 to little for a gift in this instance?

A. I think whatever you're able to do is fine. That is a LARGE sum of money to be putting up just to be a part of it, so if I were the bride, I'd be understanding if you skipped out on the gift altogether. If you feel like you need to do something, I think 40 dollars would be good.

Can I transfer used itunes gift card with remaining balance to another account?
Q. I am wanting to transfer an itunes ($50) gift card with $40.97 left on the remaining balance to another account. Can this be done, and if so what is the process? It seems as though u would be able to.

A. you can't transfer balances between accounts.
you can't use your itunes gift card balance to "gift" items.

Would it be inappropriate to send a small gift to my loan officer?
Q. It would only be a small gift less that $40 bucks. I realize was her job to get me the loan but I do want to say thank you! Would it be inappropriate?

A. Sure, it is fine. We spent hours over a month with our Agent and Loan Officer. You develop a friendship not just a working relationship. At closing, they each gave us these beautiful "Welcome to your new home" cards with gift cards in them. Later that month, after we got settled, we gave them each cards of gratitude for helping us with our dream home. Inside, we had a photo of our family in front of the new house and I included tickets to a local event that was open for several weeks and had a note that teased "Now that your weekends are free, have some fun on me" They both took their families and had a great day.

As long as it is not cash and is under $100.00, you are fine. Let them know you appreciate the one on one attention they gave you. They can't hear it enough.

Congrats on your loan, for whatever it was! Ah, the winds of change are amazing, aren't they! Best of luck for your future...
