Is it OK to bring a lot of vitamins to Hong Kong & China?

Q. I am going to China soon. My friend there has requested that I bring 6 month supply of vitamins for her mother. The requested items total over $700. in value, and 23 bottles of various vitamins and herbal supplements, six of some, three of others. I wonder if anyone has experience with Hong Kong and China customs (at Shenzhen) on something like this? Are they OK with it even though it obviously is not for personal use? Is there some limit on the value or type of gifts brought for Chinese friends?

A. 23 bottles seems a lot for consumption within 6 months. Unless the bottles are small, the value itself is not a problem, but when they see so many bottles, the customs officer might have doubts about "personal consumption". Coming from Hong Kong and crossing to the Shenzhen Lowu border, in my experience, is more lenient, but they are strict in scanning big bag and luggages, I usually bring back packs so I didn't had much problem or asked for my bag to be scanned.

If possible, ask for your friend if you can lower the number of bottles, or if you are traveling with a friend, you may split them into two sets. The items/gifts I know that are strictly regulated in airport and customs are cigarettes / tobacco and of course liquids. For vitamins and supplements, just to be sure, keep them in original packaging. Again, though, 23 bottles may be a bit too much, at least in my opinion.

How long does registered post air mail take from Hong Kong to New Jersey?
Q. Hi, I ordered a game off of ebay on November 10. The seller lives in Hong Kong, and he is sending it to me via registered post airmail. I live in New Jersey. How long will it take for the game to arrive? It's been 10 days already.

A. I ordered a game off Ebay as well from a Hong Kong company... it took 3 weeks for mine to come.. then i read the package and they listed it as a "gift" so they did not have to pay extra! LOL! ... cheap for them! .... but... 3 weeks....

What places should we not miss to go to, so we could make the most out of our Hong Kong Trip?
Q. My husband and I are going to Hong Kong with our 4-year-old daughter 2 weeks from now. This is our gift for her 4th birthday. We are booked to stay at The Disneyland Hotel to make the most of our Disneyland experience (it's for her after all) but we don't have a tour guide to help us tour around Hong Kong Proper. What important tourist attractions should we not miss to enjoy our trip to the highest level?

A. Go to www.discoverhongkong.com and see what interest you, you will find an event schedule so you know what will be going on during your visit. I personally think the night harbor view should not be missed, you can either look down from Victoria Peak, or appreciate it by the sea side on Avenue of Stars. Also suggest you try the dim sum restaurant, you rarely can find food as good as those anywhere else in the world, details can also be found on website of discoverhongkong.
