A. In the US the 3G iphone is not offerred at a no contract price so you would have to get it from eBay or Craigslist or someplace like that and then it will have no warranty if it has been jailbroken or unlocked
What is a good gift when I visit my Japanese girlfriend's family?
Q. I am an American living in China, and I will visit my girlfriend's family in Japan. I will stay at their home for a week. What would be an appropriate gift? My girlfriend says food is not a good idea because of Japanese concern about the quality of Chinese food.
A. My ex-wife is Japanese and I had often traveled around parts of Asia and brought things back to her family. They were always appreciative, but truthfully I am not sure they liked the gifts. Chances are, you are going to fly into Narita, Osaka, Fukuoka or some other large airport depending on where her family lives. Find something from the cusine in that area. Yes, bring them a Japanese gift. Travel is expensive in Japan and a lot of the sweets and other foods do not get shipped around the country. I used to bring sweets in the shape of cherry blossoms from Kyoto called Sakura Mochi. They loved them. Or when I was in Fukuoka, I would pick up Hakata Ramen. Yeah, it sounds stupid, but they loved it. You could pick them up something corny in China, like a Cochin (a lantern), but if you get a chance to pick something up from other parts of Japan. They'll love it.
