Q. My boyfriend's birthday is coming up this weekend, and I have no idea what to get him.
He is really into music, he plays the saxophone and guitar. He is a senior in high school (Im a freshman in college) and he will be going to college next year, studying music. He always gets me really thoughtful romantic gifts that mean a whole lot. I want to give him something he is going to love and remember for his 18th birthday. But I dont have a ton of money either. Any ideas are appreciated!!!

A. Tell him about the seven modes of music, and print him all the Exotic scales
What do guys really want for their birthday?
Q. My husband is turning 33 this month, and I want to throw him a surprise get together at a pub with our friends. I know he will like that. But what is a special gift that only I can give him? I want to give him a really romantic and memorable gift, perhaps on his actual birthday (the party is the weekend after).
A. I have several possibilities for gifts that a guy would like, Unfortunately, none are particularly 'romantic' because, I'm sorry to say, 'romantic' doesn't do much for guys
- Some sort of power tool, like cordless drill, reciprocating saw, or anything he might have mentioned
- As a suprise, get his car hand washed (outside) and detailed (inside) while he's otherwise occupied (look in the phone book for companies that come to you to do the work). This would only work if he likes/cares about his car
- A couple rounds of paintball (incl rental equipment) with his friends at a local paintball place (outdoor is usually better)
- A couple of high-quality steaks might do the trick
- A dog - Take him to the animal shelter to pick one out. Shelter dogs are the most grateful dogs you'll find and often the best behaved. Also, fewer genetic problems than purebreds.
- Some combination of the above

I female friend of mine is having a Birthday and I would like to get her a non-romantic gift, suggestions?
Q. I dated this lady over ten years ago and it didn't work out but we've remained good friends. She has been in relationships since so I didn't feel it was appropriate to send her a gift. Now is single once again and I would like to send her a gift for her birthday but I want it to be appropriate and non-romantic. I need help.
A. Well houseware is always nice, but that only works if you know something they need, like something broke and you could buy her a new one. Or some sort of bath salts or bath oil balls are always a nice gift and not romantic unless you put flowers and hearts with them haha
think of everything that she thinks is nice (music, movies, is she into any sports, what does she do for fun) and get her something that relates to that.
good luck!
